central furnace

Atlanta, GA – If you are making the decision to purchase a new furnace or heating system for your home, you need to be sure you factor the efficiency rating of the unit into your decision. But do you understand what that rating means?

“A furnace efficiency rating explains how well your unit uses energy,” says Atlanta Heating and Air Conditioning owner Phil Montgomery. “This helps determine how much it will cost to heat your home when the weather gets cold. The higher the rating means the greater the amount of heat provided for the amount of energy used.”

The efficiency of a central furnace is measured by annual fuel utilization efficiency. New furnaces must display the AFUE so consumers can clearly see and compare the number on all models. The AFUE measures the efficiency of the unit in converting energy to heat over the course of a typical year. (more…)

What To Do When Your AC Breaks

AC Breaks

If you’re like me (or really any human being) your worst fear is your air conditioner dying in the middle of a hot sweltering day. Air Conditioning units are usually pretty robust but like any electrical unit they are prone to break down after consistent use.

But lucky for you just because they aren’t working now doesn’t mean the AC can’t be repaired. No need to worry about having to spend an insane amount of money to get it replaced, AC repair might just be a few simple steps away.

Now depending on what kind of air conditioning system you’re using there are going to be different solutions. But whether you’re using a simple window AC or central air the problems aren’t that different from one another. But for this article I’m going to tell you how to get your central AC working properly.

The best time to schedule AC service and maintenance is in the spring, ideally in the months of April and May. Those who live within the metro Atlanta area know that we experience all four seasons to their fullest extent: winter, spring, summer, and fall. Because of this, your outside AC unit will most likely sit dormant for at least five months over fall and winter and into early spring. If you did not have your unit serviced and prepared for the winter and early spring months, then it was most likely exposed to some pretty harsh conditions from rain, sleet, falling leaves, pollen, dust, and debris.

Buying-AC

While opting to install a central air conditioning unit may seem extravagant, there are factors to consider before opting to buy a split type or window type air conditioner. Central air conditioning has its pros and cons. But before thinking of the cons, try to consider the benefits if you decide to have one installed.

There are some factors that could affect your decision making process in purchasing central air conditioning.  Depending on your budget and your willingness, these factors can help you decide:

AC-Maintenance

April is the time of year when the weather is a little like a roller coaster ride. Cool to cold mornings can quickly escalate into warm or hot afternoons. If you live in the Atlanta, Georgia area, then you know what it’s like to switch between your heating and cooling on the same day throughout the month. Switching back and forth between heating and cooling is normal for this time of year but it can also be stressful for your unit. That’s why April is a good time for routine AC maintenance in an effort to prevent the need of AC repair services down the road.

Routine AC maintenance will save you from making a call in the middle of July for AC repair services during the height of summer when you really need to keep cool. This should be performed at least once a year, sometimes twice, depending on your climate and outdoor conditions. Extreme pollen and dust can cause you to change out your filters more often, and whether you realize it or not, your filter plays a big role in the proper functioning of clean air and good air flow. A dirty filter can substantially cut down on proper air flow, and this can cause the unnecessary need for air conditioning services and repairs.

Home Air Conditioning

When you look around a residential housing construction site in the metro area, one of the first things you will notice is the installation of AC units going in. Georgia is known for its hot, humid weather, especially along the Southern Coast. Home air conditioning is a must in Atlanta, along with the rest of the state. Due to the growing population in the area, the need for residential AC service has also grown.

Summertime is not exactly the time we stop and think about heating repair or heating services, but it should be. Cooler temperatures in Atlanta can creep up on you faster than you think, and if your furnace has not been performing as you would like, then summer is a perfect time to have it checked out before the cold weather rush sets in.

Many people are not aware of how long their heating systems might work before they need replaced. If your furnace installation was over 25 years ago, you should plan on having it replaced. If you are not sure how old your system is, you can call a reputable furnace repair company to inspect your system and make the necessary recommendations.

Professional heating repairmen have the knowledge and training it takes to assess your residential heating system in Atlanta in order to find and correct potential problems. If you have noticed your system is not cycling properly and seems to be turning on and off too frequently, this can be a sure sign that something is wrong. If you have a newer system, it may be as simple as moving your thermostat to the correct place in your home, or that your home is not properly insulated, or possibly the duct work is not installed properly; but the only way to determine these things is to have it checked by calling for central heating repair services.
