 Atlanta, Georgia – Unfortunately, mold is a part of our everyday lives, whether we realize it or not. One area homeowners need to watch closely for accumulation of mold is their AC unit. Without you even knowing, mold can develop and begin spreading through the home as the unit distributes air.

Since many homeowners don’t regularly inspect their heating and cooling units in their Atlanta homes, how can they know if mold has developed? “Mold smells musty, so if you begin to notice a musty smell that wasn’t there before, the culprit could be mold,” says Montgomery, whose company also provides furnace service. “As soon as you notice a smell, you should call your AC technician to inspect the unit. Another big indicator is if you’ve had a leak in your unit. If either of these occur, call a technician right away.”

“Heating in the winter, and even air conditioning in the summer, don’t have to break the bank,” says Montgomery. “The easiest tip is to turn down your thermostat, especially during times when no one is at home.”

Turning down your thermostat can result in pretty significant savings. For every degree you lower your thermostat over an 8-12 hour period, you can save between 1 and 3 percent on your energy bill each year. And you can even rack up those savings when you’re home! At night, when you’re already nestled under the covers, consider lowering the thermostat a degree or two. And during the day, you can always throw on a sweater or additional layer of clothing in order to sacrifice a degree or two on the thermostat.

 Atlanta, Georgia – During the course of the summer while you were frequently running your AC unit, you may have noticed some strange noises coming from your HVAC unit. Some are no cause for concern, but others should have you calling your air conditioning repair company.
